Tai Chi
is a branch of the traditional Chinese martial art. As
a means of keeping fit and preventing and curing diseases,
it has been widely practiced among the people. Tai
Chi is a series of slow, coordinated exercises, performed
smoothly and accurately with the muscles relaxed and the
mind absorbed in each movement.
It is
becoming increasingly popular with practitioners of all ages. It
can be particularly beneficial to older adults, enhancing
their balance and flexibility.
Through
Tai Chi exercise, the following benefits can be achieved.

function of central nervous system. Reduction
of stress and improves certain nervous and mental disease.
- Improved
cardio respiratory system. Decreased blood
pressure and enhanced efficiency of oxygen and carbon
dioxide
exchange.
- Stronger
bones, muscles and joints. Improved
balance and flexibility.

overall well being.

OSF Saint
Francis offers both basic and advanced level Tai Chi classes.
Our lower level beginner's class is held on Mondays and Fridays
from 1:15 to 2:00pm, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:10 to
11:55am. These classes are well suited for those with
fibromyalgia, arthritis, MS, Parkinson's or those who are
limited by other health problems. It
is designed through the Arthritis Foundation and chairs are
available for participants that need them. RiverPlex membership
is
not required for this class, session
cards are available.

class is held Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays from 7:15am
