Introducing the Kidney/Pancrease Transplant Services

=Images= | Transplant Services The first kidney transplant was performed at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center on July 14, 1985. Since that time the transplant program has played a vital role in the treatment of end stage renal disease and kidney transplantation. The program currently performs approximately 50 kidney transplants per year, with results that are consistently superior to those obtained in the U.S. generally. At OSF St. Francis Medical Center, more than 800 kidney transplants have been performed, with an increasing percentage involving living donors. In 2002, pancreas transplantation was added to the transplant program in order to provide additional benefit to patients with kidney failure from Type 1 diabetes.
