The Risk Factors for Breast Cancer Include:

  • Being female
  • Age
  • Extremely rare in women under 20
  • Very rare in women under 30
  • Incidence rises with age and becomes significant by age 50
  • Being of Ashkenazi Jewish decent
  • Ethnicity and race
  • Hormonal factors
  • Onset of menstruation (at an early age or late onset)
  • Age of menopause onset

Personal History:

  • Family history of breast cancer
  • Personal history of breast cancer
  • Weight
  • Physical inactivity
  • Alcohol consumption

The Signs of Breast Cancer Include:

  • Any new, lump or thickening in any part of the breast
  • Change in breast size, shape, texture or color
  • Dimpling or puckering or the skin
  • Swelling, redness, or warmth that does not go away
  • Pain in one spot that does not vary with your monthly cycle
  • Indenting of nipple
  • Nipple discharge that starts suddenly
  • An itchy, sore, or scaling area on one nipple
  • You may or may not have pain with these changes
