Importance of Screening

(309) 683-5009

It is estimated that 203,500 cases of new invasive breast cancer occurred among women in 2002. It is also estimated that 1,400 men received a diagnosis of breast cancer in 2002 as well.  Statistics show that 1 in 8 women develop breast cancer during their lifetime.  Breast cancer can enter our lives by striking our mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin or wife.

=Images= | Importance of ScreeningThe early detection of breast cancer is the key to survival.  Breast exams by a trained healthcare professional once a year, monthly self-breast exams and screening mammography are essential components in assisting to find breast cancer at the earliest stages possible.  mammograms are not a "once in a lifetime" screening exam.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Center offers state-of-the-art breast imaging in an environment of privacy, warmth and efficiency.  In situations where further examination is needed we are also equipped to perform:

  • breast imaging ultrasounds
  • wire localization procedures
  • core biopsies
  • all other diagnostic procedures

All of the technologists and radiologists who work at the Breast Center specialize in mammography.  We also have an RN Clinical Case Manager who assures patients and families have the support they need and assists them with obtaining answers to their questions.
