Physical Examination & Medical Surveillance Services
Many employers require one or more types of physical examinations for their employees. OSF Saint Francis Center for Occupational Health provides full-spectrum services in meeting employer requirements for employee medical examinations.
Pre-Employment Physicals
These physicals may be legally mandated (i.e. Department of Transportation physicals for truck drivers) or when employers need to know if a prospective employee has physical or health issues that could impact work safety and performance. OSF Saint Francis Center for Occupational Health has highly trained Occupational Health physicians who provide such physicals. We can also provide onsite evaluations to help determine your pre-employment physical needs.
There may be requirements for: hearing; pulmonary function; vision; X-ray; drug screens and laboratory tests. Our Center for Occupational Health provides all required services. For some employers, special functional assessments to determine if an employee has the necessary strength and physical requirements may be required. Such evaluations are referred to OSF Saint Francis Center for Industrial Rehabilitation and then reviewed by an OSF Occupational Health physician. Consultation is available for professionally assessing actual work demands so functional job descriptions can be written.
Medical Surveillance Physicals
Sometimes work exposes the worker to hazards requiring medical monitoring. These physical examinations identify potential problems early and allow for corrective action. Exposures to noise, dusts, chemicals and other work environment factors may have governmental mandates for regular medical examinations. In some instances, where public safety is involved regular medical examinations are also specified. As an example, truck drivers are required to regularly have medical examinations to document that there are no health related factors that would create a hazard in their driving performance.
