LEARN Program for Weight Management
The LEARN® Program for Weight Management
As a participant in the LEARN program, you will become a student of your own unique behaviors and practice new lifestyle skills for lasting weight loss. This is not a typical "diet" approach to weight loss. The five key elements of the LEARN Program are: Lifestyles, Exercise, Attitudes, Relationships, and Nutrition. The program includes:
The LEARN Book
"The LEARN Program for Weight Management", by Kelly D. Brownell, PhD., continues to be the most scientifically tested and widely used weight loss manual available today. It was originally written 25 years ago, and is now in it's 10th edition. The book is an easy and fun read with practical information, not scientific jargon!
Group Support & Professional Guidance
You will attend 14 weekly meetings. The meetings serve many purposes...group support, accountability, and education. Each week, you will weigh-in and learn new skills to help you manage your weight in a healthy way, without dieting. Meetings are facilitated by a registered dietitian, exercise specialist, and experts in stress and behavioral management.
Body Composition Tests
Before the program begins, you will complete a Bod Pod assessment to measure your body fat and lean body mass. This test will also estimate how many calories you need to eat each day. You will do another Bod Pod at the end of the program to measure your success.
Health & Wellness Assessments
The number of pounds on the scale are not as important as your overall health. To measure how your health improves, you will have two health screenings. These include blood testing to measure total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, and fasting blood sugar. Along with these tests, you will complete a Personal Wellness Profile to give you a overall assessment of your lifestyle. These screenings will be done at the beginning and end of the program.
Step Counter
Physical activity is a key component of losing weight and keeping it off for life. You will get a step counter to help you measure your current activity level, then set goals to become more active.
