Partial Hospitalization Program

OSF Saint Francis Medical Center established the ambulatory Behavioral Health Adult Program in 1993 to provide comprehensive psychological care to individuals who are experiencing acute symptoms of mental health disorders. The Behavioral Health Adult Program is designed for individuals ages 18 years and older who are experiencing acute problems such as depression or anxiety.

Treatment

=Images= | Partial Hospitalization We offer individualized, structured and goal-oriented treatment designed to decrease symptoms and maximize coping skills in order to assist the patient in returning to their maximum level of functioning. The first step of treatment is an evaluation by a psychotherapist, consisting of a one-hour interview to gather a history and description of current problems. After the evaluation is complete, an appropriate course of treatment is recommended.

Outpatient Counseling is a one-on-one counseling session that is usually one hour per week. More sessions may be arranged if needed. Many kinds of issues and concerns can best be dealt with by working with a counselor on an individual basis.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides comprehensive psychological care to individuals who are experiencing acute symptoms of a mental health disorder. The program is designed for individuals experiencing serious difficulties that are not serious enough to require inpatient mental health treatment. Patients participating in the Partial Hospitalization Program meet each weekday for six hours of therapy and return home during the evenings and on weekends. Treatment is primarily conducted though group therapy and education, with individual therapy as needed.

A master's level therapist facilitates therapy groups. A registered nurse or certified occupational therapist assistant conducts educational groups. Pastoral Care is available upon request.

A Dual Diagnosis group is also available to PHP patients. Education on denial, recovery and relapse prevention as they relate to alcohol and/or drug abuse is offered.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is designed for patients needing less structure and support than what is provided through the Partial Hospitalization Program. Individuals are frequently capable of working, but are still in need of intensive skills building and/or therapy that cannot be addressed adequately in weekly outpatient therapy.

The program is conducted three hours per day, Monday through Friday. All treatment is conducted through group therapy and education.

Support Care Transition Group: Patients who have successfully completed the Partial Hospitalization Program are encouraged to attend a 4-week support group that meets on Wednesday afternoons to discuss aftercare issues. There is no charge.
