Amy Lister, RD 

Amy Lister, RD has been with the Eating Disorders Program since 2008. She is a registered and licensed dietitian and graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Dietetics. She completed her dietetic internship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Amy has several years experience working with a variety of patients in a clinical setting in addition to serving as the clinical manager for the CHIP (Coronary Health Improvement Project) Program and as the education director for a wellness company.

"I am passionate about teaching nutrition and healthy eating. I enjoy helping patients begin to enjoy food again during their recovery process."

She is a member of the American Dietetic Association, Central Illinois Dietetic Association and has attended various conferences and classes specializing in nutrition and eating disorders. Amy serves on the advisory board for the Bradley University Dietetic Internship and presents annually on working with the eating disorder population. Additionally she serves as a preceptor for the OSF Dietetic Internship.


Eating Disorders | ED Melinda Breede

Melinda Breede, LCPC

Melinda Breede, LCPC is a National Certified Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.  She completed her Master of Arts degree at Bradley University in Human Development Counseling.  She has been a therapist with the Eating Disorders Program since 2008.

"It is my goal to empower every patient to make healthy life choices.  My favorite interventions include healing through art therapy, animal-assisted therapy, and interactive activities.  I believe strengthening self-esteem is foundational to improving quality of life."

Melinda has worked as an individual, family, and group therapist for the Eating Disorders Program and is also the ANAD Patient Support Group leader.  Her background is in cognitive-behavioral and family systems approaches.  She also has experience working with patients who have depression and anxiety.

Melinda has attended national workshops on Eating Disorders and related issues including Internal Family Systems, the Maudsley Approach to Eating Disorders, Family-based Treatment, Depression, Anxiety, and Adoption.

Melinda has presented educational sessions on Eating Disorders to various schools and universities in the community.  She also helps to organize local activities for National Eating Disorders Awareness Week every February. 

Eating Disorders | ED Tim Bromley

Tim Bromley, LCPC & Coordinator

Tim Bromley, LCPC & Coordinator is a Licensed, Clinical Professional Counselor. He completed his Masters degree in Psychology at Bradley University. He has been a therapist with the Eating Disorders Program since 1990.

Tim Bromley is a Licensed, Clinical Professional Counselor. He completed his Masters degree in Psychology at Bradley University. He has been a therapist with the Eating Disorders Program since 1990.

He has worked as an individual, family, and group therapist for the Eating Disorders Program and has also facilitated the Family Awareness Group for the past 20 years. Tim has worked with many different patients and families in the treatment of eating disorders. He has experience in cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and family systems approaches. For the past 10 years, he has been the Eating Disorders Program Coordinator and for the past 4 years has been the Coordinator of the Behavioral Health Adult Program as well.

Tim has attended numerous national workshops on Eating Disorders and related issues including Feminist Perspectives on Eating Disorders, Internal Family Systems, Family-based Treatment, Attachment Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Trauma issues, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and many others.

He has also presented workshops and educational sessions on Understanding the Psychological Aspects of Eating Disorders, Mindful Eating, Intervention Strategies and others to various schools and universities, community agencies, Bariatric groups, physician groups, social work associations, as well as television and radio programs.


Eating Disorders | ED MaryBeth Antar
MaryBeth Antar, RN

Mary Beth Antar, RN is a Licensed Registered Nurse certified in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing. She has worked at the medical center since 1980 and for the Eating Disorders program since 1986.

"I believe through self discovery, each patient will define their own problems, strengths and uniqueness enabling them to problem solve, accept or celebrate their lives in health and prosperity."

Mary Beth has extensive experience working with eating disorder patients as a psychiatric nurse. She provided care on the inpatient eating disorders unit until it closed in 1995 and has continued her experience in the Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Programs since that time. She has experience in all phases of the partial hospitalization program including family sessions, support groups, numerous psycho-educational groups and psychosocial assessments of patients. She received additional training through five day intensive workshops on cognitive therapy with David Burns and Aaron Beck and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy with Albert Ellis along with a variety of training in anxiety and stress management, communication, skill building, trauma and grief. She has a strong awareness of women’s issues, culture and socialization as well as alternative therapies such as aromatherapy, yoga and multicultural healing.

She has been actively involved in providing education of various interns to gain experience and understanding of eating disorders including nursing students, medical students, women’s health fellowships, counselors, music therapy students and other interns. She has also spoken to various schools and health care professionals about the importance of both psychiatric and medical treatment for eating disorders and the need to address the whole person in the plan of care.

She currently provides a daily foundation of coping and caring for patients in our intensive day programs (PHP and IOP) through her daily assessments, education about eating disorders and related issues, attention to physical needs, individualized monitoring of progress in treatment, and coordination of care with physicians and psychiatrists. She establishes a recovery-focused environment in the programs and strives to help patients reach their fullest potential in treatment and in life.

 


Eating Disorders | ED Linda Batek
Linda Batek, MD

Linda Batek, MD has been with the eating disorders program for approximately five years. She attended medical school at The University of Illinois College of Medicine and completed her residency in Family Medicine at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. Following graduation, she established a private practice in Chillicothe, Il before joining the university of Illinois College of Medicine as an academic physician. As a female family physician, her practice has naturally evolved primarily to the care of the female patient, especially within the context of family. Having four children of her own, working with the adolescent and young adult population seems a natural fit.

" I enjoy the multidisciplinary team approach to the care of the eating disorder patients. My goal is to provide medical care and education to each patient to improve his/her physical well being both in the short and long term."

 


Eating Disorders | ED Sabra Burress
Sabra Burress, LCPC

Sabra Burress, LCPC completed her Masters of Arts Degree at Bradley University in Human Development Counseling. She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.

Ms. Burress has been providing counseling since 1998. She specializes and has interest in expressive art techniques in counseling. Expressive art techniques give each patient a way to express themselves without words but through nonverbal communication. She uses materials like sand, movement, writing and symbols. She has also experienced working with children and families dealing with various mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and relational problems. She has worked with the Eating Disorders Program since 2008. She provides individual and family counseling and also facilitates the Family Awareness Support Group. She has received specialized training on eating disorders including training provided by national recognized programs, Renfrew and Castlewood.

"I believe recovery is a process of changing the behaviors to allow the patient to address their underlying thoughts and emotions. I also strive to provide patients with understanding, motivation, and support in a safe therapeutic environment for them to heal."

Ms. Burress has been certified through workshops and conferences such as Renfrew Treatment Center in Pennsylvania, and Castlewood Treatment Center in Missouri. She has also provided training to a variety of schools and communities to educate the public on how to understand and prevent eating disorders.

"My goal is to assist families by presenting a warm, encouraging environment. My hope is to offer patients and families a smooth transition into treatment by lending a compassionate hand through the steps in getting started on their journey."
As secretary of the Eating Disorders Program, Laura is often a patient or families’ first contact here at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. Laura makes it a priority to ensure everyone feels welcome. She is a key player in making sure patients and families have all of their questions answered. She takes pride in assisting patients and families with the transition into treatment.

Eating Disorders | ED Angela Tanney
Angela Tanney, LCPC

Angela Tanney, LCPC is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. She completed her Masters degree in Clinical Psychology at Ball State University in Muncie, IN. She has been an outpatient therapist with the Eating Disorders Program since April 2010.

"Seeking treatment for an eating disorder requires immense strength and courage. Eating disorders are often a symptom of a greater need or unresolved issue. My approach to treatment is to guide individuals to recognize strengths that already exist within them."

She has experience in cognitive-behavioral, feminist, and interpersonal approaches to the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Eating Disorder, Not Otherwise Specified.

Angie was an active member of the Eating Disorders Outreach Team at Ball State University from 2006-2008. As a part of this team, she aided in increasing awareness of eating disorders to Ball State University faculty and undergraduate students on campus. She co-facilitated group therapy in the treatment of eating disorders. She was also a research assistant on an empirical study: Bulimia and Predictive Factors.

Angie has attended multiple conferences on the prevention and treatment of eating disorders. These include: Eating Disorders and Comorbid Anxiety Disorders, Treatment of Anorexia Nervosa: New Perspectives, and Resistance to Eating Disorder Treatment. She is also a member of the National Eating Disorder Association.

She has also presented workshops and training sessions on Anorexia Nervosa and Suicide Risk, Purging Disorder: A Cause for Concern, Depression: The Serotonergic Differences in Men and Women, Eating Disorders in Athletes, Etiology of Eating Disorders, and Dieting Myths.


Eating Disorders | ED Eliida Lakota
Eliida Lakota, COTA

Eliida Lakota, COTA is a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. Her approach to treatment is to incorporate her Native American background with her training in body image and expressive arts to provide patients with the opportunity to develop a balance between their values, their feelings, self concepts and body image. It is important that they develop skills to aide in maintaining this balance in a challenging culture.

"I utilize expressive arts, movement, and body image exercises to help patients express and explore ideas, feelings, and issues to promote better balance and coping in their lives."

She began working in this field in 1967, first at Peoria State Hospital. In 1975, she joined OSF as a C.O.T.A. through the Department of Rehabilitation. In 1984, she began working in the Eating Disorders Program.

She utilizes various media in her programming such as water color, sculpture, journaling, creative writing, storytelling, music & movement and imagery. Working through these avenues, patients experience new ways of expressing and exploring ideas, feelings and issues and are better prepared to make healthy choices as they redesign their lives.

With Eliida’s Native American background, she has the ability to encompass aspects of this tradition and spirituality into her expressive arts to provide an enhanced appreciation for self expression and balance in everyday situations. Also, exposure to nature has always remained in the forefront of healthy family and individual development. These concepts drew her to occupational therapy and Behavioral Health as an avenue to explore her own inherent drives and desire to assist others in their search for wellness.

 


Eating Disorders | ED Abraham Frenkel
Abraham Frenkel, MD

Abraham Frenkel, MD has been with the eating disorders program for over four years. He attended Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem, Israel in 1977 and was the chief resident at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York where he completed a fellowship in clinical research and psychopharmacology of depression, anxiety and eating disorders. Dr. Frenkel currently has a practice in Peoria with the OSF Medical Group.
