Hospital Death (Mortality) Rates Outcome of Care Measures

"30-Day Mortality" is when patients die within 30 days is of their admission to a hospital. Below, the death rates for each hospital are compared to the U.S. National Rate. The rates take into account how sick patients were before they were admitted to the hospital.


These percentages were calculated from Medicare data on patients discharged between July 1, 2007 and June 30, 2010. They don't include people in Medicare Advantage Plans (like an HMO or PPO) or people who don't have Medicare.

Death Rate for Heart Attack (567h patients)

The graph above shows the estimated 30-day death (mortality) rates for heart attack, compared to the U.S. National 30-day death rate for all Medicare patients treated for heart attack. The death rates here have been risk-adjusted. This means that they take into account how sick patients were before they were admitted to the hospital.

hThis column shows the number of patients with Original Medicare who were admitted to the hospital for Heart Attack. The hospital may also have treated additional Medicare patients in Medicare health plans (like an HMO or PPO).
