Mission and Philosophy of Nursing

It is our purpose to serve the sick, injured and poor regardless of race, color or creed. In concert with the mission, vision, and values of OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, the professional nursing staff together with the medical staff and other members of the OSF Saint Francis family, provides patient centered care based on individual need. This approach embraces a continuum of services encompassing every level of care throughout the lifespan.

Our nursing care has its roots from Watson's Nursing Theory. Our patients are provided with a supportive, protective environment which meets all their needs, physical, emotional and spiritual. The human caring relationship is developed and strengthened with a helping-trusting process. Our nurses practice loving-kindness, creating a healing environment at all levels.

Our Patient Care Services foster professional growth and development of clinical practice through team building and collaboration. Staff is encouraged to actively participate in problem-solving and decision-making issues that directly affect their unit. Evidence based practice guides our delivery of care, and allows staff the autonomy to meet the individual health needs of our patients. The team member serves as the patient advocate, collaborating with the medical staff and other health professionals in providing the highest quality patient-centered care. Healing and compassion awaits each individual in need.
